Victorian Education and Career Landscape

Since 2000, the Victorian workforce has increased by around three million workers. This has come with greater emphasis on part-time work (up by 55 per cent). The industries that have experienced the greatest growth include professional, scientific and technical services (76 per cent); health care and social assistance (75 per cent); and education and training services (45 per cent).

STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) remains a key focus of education in Victoria, as these are the industries tipped for significant growth over the next decade. Introduced in late 2016, VicSTEM features several new initiatives including The Victorian Maths Challenge, Wolfram Technologies, the revised Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and a workforce training innovation fund.

The Victorian Government’s commitment to digital competence will also include a $128 million investment in Tech Schools. The plan will involve the construction of 10 state-of-the-art Tech Schools, with institutions to be built in Bendigo, Geelong, Ballarat, Epping, Wyndham, Werribee, Lilydale, Berwick, Greensborough and Clayton.

To learn more about the education and careers landscape in Victoria, as well as on a national scale, ensure you attend the Melbourne ACS Seminar.
